Filmmaker exploring stories across borders.

Lucie Barbazanges

Who am I?

I am a French London-based broadcast journalist and filmmaker, with years of experience covering major international events. As a Taiwan and UK correspondent, I’ve produced reports from start to finish on topics like Brexit, cross-strait tensions, presidential elections, natural disasters, among others. I’ve worked for prominent media outlets, including France 24, TF1, Arte and RTS, co-directing news segments and documentaries.

I can be commissioned as a Freelance Reporter, Videographer, Video Director, Producer Director and Video editor for online and broadcast productions.

Feel free to reach out if you'd like to work together.

  • I’ve been a reporter for several years, covering news in the UK and Taiwan. From pieces-to-camera to writing in-depth stories, I’ve reported on politics, geopolitics, economy, culture, and breaking news.

  • With a passion for creating compelling stories, I love constructing longer pieces, carefully planning how to build tension and use visuals to tell a story in depth. Filmmaking allows me to blend creativity and narrative, capturing both emotion and meaning through powerful imagery.

  • As a videographer, I’ve transitioned from filming news stories with larger cameras like the PMW-500 to creating high-quality content, including documentaries, with full-frame mirrorless cameras like the Sony A7 and Canon 5D.

I own and use my own professional equipment, including the Sony A7IV, DJI Mini 3 Pro drone, RS3 gimbal, and full sound gear, ensuring top-notch results for every project.

  • Since my time in journalism school, I’ve always loved editing my own videos. While filming brings the story to life, editing is where the storytelling truly comes together. It’s the final step that enhances the narrative.

I’ve edited almost all the videos on this website using Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro for seamless, high-quality results.

Ongoing Documentary

Climate activism

For several months, I have been researching and documenting the legal treatment of environmental activists in the United Kingdom. The UN has raised concerns about the sentencing of some protesters, who have received prison terms of up to five years. This situation highlights the complex balance between maintaining public order and upholding the right to protest. My work explores these evolving dynamics and their broader implications in the context of the climate emergency.

I have covered this issue in two reports for French television—one for Arte and one for France 2. The first follows the January 2025 appeal trial of 16 climate activists, while the second covers the day Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland were sentenced for throwing soup at Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

Self-shooting PD

I direct, shoot, and film documentaries, junkets, news reports, and promotional videos in the UK, where I am based, and in Europe.

Taiwan

Documentaries

I had the opportunity to direct, film, and edit two documentaries in Taiwan, collaborating with the talented Lou Kisiela and Antoine Morel.

The first documentary, Taiwan’s White Terror, explores the dark period of political repression from 1947 to 1987, when thousands of people were imprisoned or executed under martial law. This film delves into the lasting impact of this era on Taiwan’s collective memory and identity.

The second documentary focuses on the controversial betel nut industry, a significant part of Taiwan’s culture and economy. It investigates the social and health implications of betel nut consumption, from its role in daily life of workers, to its addictive nature and serious cancer risks.

Both documentaries reflect my passion for telling stories that reveal the complexities of Taiwan’s history and culture.

News segments

Among the many stories I’ve covered, a few news segments stand out as my favorites. These pieces highlight a range of important issues, from China's growing threat toward Taiwan and Hong Kong, and the diverses perspectives on Taiwan’s complex history, to the delayed but significant #MeToo movement in Taiwan.
